Why choose our stearic acid for your candles?
Stearic acid is an additive intended for the manufacture of molded candles as cast!
What is stearic acid?
Stearic acid or stearin is a additive used in the creation of candles. He is vegetable oil extract, including palm oil, but also coconut oil. It is presented in the form of a white powder. It is a natural ingredient that improves the opacity, hardness, burn time and color of your candles. It also allows for a smooth wax surface. Stearin is used in particular in the manufacture of molded candles. By mixing your wax with vegetable stearin, unmolding your candle will be simplified because the stearin will help maintain the shape of your molded candle. Stearic acid will also act as a color enhancer. Our stearin is GMO-free, biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
What is stearic acid used for?
Stearic acid is commonly used as a chemical compound when creating candles. By mixing with the wax, it improves its quality, its lifespan, its color and even its texture ! Stearin also helps prevent the curvature and the cracking of candles. It makes it possible to carry out molded candles such as fondants (100% stearin) but also candles in containers.
What are the benefits of stearic acid?
- Extends the burning time of your candle : stearic acid, in addition to your wax, will increase the melting point of the candle.
- Hardens your candle : Stearin also acts as a hardener, which will increase burn time and prevent the candle from softening.
- Revives the color : Is the color of your candle starting to deteriorate? This additive, by acting as an opacifier, will accentuate the intensity of the color of your candle. More concretely, by mixing with your wax, it will reduce its transparency and highlight its bright and vibrant color.
- Improves texture : this additive, by strengthening your wax, allows it to become more resistant and therefore less likely to crack or bend. It improves the texture of your candle, its appearance and makes it easier to unmold. You can create smoother, more pleasant-to-the-touch candles using this acid.
- 100% natural, renewable and “cruelty free” : stearic acid contains 100% products of plant origin and not tested on animals. It contains no GMOs, animal fats, pesticides or herbicides.
How to use stearin in your candles?
Do you want to incorporate stearic acid into your candle making routine? Nothing could be easier. We will present to you the five steps to follow to use it in the best way:
1. Choose the appropriate amount of stearic acid
The first step is to choose the right amount of stearic acid for your candle. This will depend on several factors including the quantity of wax used or the type of candle desired. It is generally appropriate to pour approximately 5 to 10% of stearic acid in relation to the quantity of wax used. Depending on your preferences and the desired quality, you can adjust this quantity. Stearic acid is usually mixed with paraffin with 20% stearin versus 80% paraffin.
2. Add stearic acid to candle wax
It is necessary in the second step of this process to add stearic acid to the previously melted candle wax. It is important to make this addition before the wick is placed. It is best to melt the stearic acid and candle wax separately. This could prevent the acid from burning or carbonizing. Once the additive has melted, mix it well with the wax to obtain a homogeneous mixture.
3. Add colorings and flavors
Do you want to personalize your candle by adding colorings or perfumes? It is necessary to do this only AFTER adding the stearic acid. It is important to mix the wax to evenly distribute the additives.
4. Pour the wax into the mold/container
Once everything is mixed, you can pour it all into the mold. Make sure the wick is in the center of the mold before pouring the wax.
5. Cooling and demoulding of stearic acid
Allow the candle to cool completely before unmolding it. Cooling can take a long time. This will depend on the size and shape of the candle. Once the candle has completely hardened, carefully unmold it and voilà: your pretty candle is finally ready to be lit!
